Senior Specialist SEND Advisory Teacher: Secondary

Erin is a Senior Specialist Advisory Teacher with over two decades of post‑qualifying experience across specialist and mainstream settings. She has taught English, Maths, Latin and Humanities at Key Stages 3 and 4, and has led practice development across primary and secondary settings and alternative provision.

Her career spans extensive work in SEND, safeguarding and pastoral leadership, including many years in inner‑city schools supporting students with high levels of SLCN and SEMH. Erin has a strong track record of designing and delivering specialist interventions and whole‑school improvement projects. These have included establishing an Alternative Provision within mainstream schools, developing Nurture provision at Secondary, strengthening safeguarding systems, and leading cross‑agency approaches to inclusion and safeguarding.

Over the past five years in her advisory role with ECASS, Erin has led and delivered whole‑school and bespoke training to staff, including targeted sessions on interventions, classroom strategies and communication‑friendly environments.  Her work includes supporting schools to embed SLCN‑aligned Quality First Teaching, reviewing policies and curricula, and working with senior leadership teams to build sustainable, inclusive systems. She represents ECASS at SEN Panel, ensuring that communication needs are understood and considered in decision‑making. Across all settings, her focus has been on strengthening practice, building staff confidence, and enabling schools to create environments where communication is recognised as central to learning, wellbeing and successful transitions.

Erin has contributed to local and national research at different stages over her career.  During two years living in Australia, Erin completed a research project within a specialist provision focused on safeguarding and school‑leaving age. She later presented her findings to the Australian Government in Canberra, contributing to national discussions on vulnerable learners.

Outside of work, Erin enjoys exploring new places with her family and keeping up with her two energetic children. She is an enthusiastic cyclist and loves discovering new routes whenever she can.
