The job of putting together a handwriting policy is often assigned to the Literacy Coordinator in the school, but given the complex nature of handwriting, it is often most effective to have a small steering group leading the process.
Schools may find it helpful to invite an outside professional with specialist knowledge of handwriting to provide training before a handwriting policy is created.
Handwriting is a complex skill that also involves motor learning, so it can also be helpful to involve an Occupational Therapist. The ECASS Occupational Therapist can provide training options that can meet the needs of most schools.
